Code Geass A World Divided

Code Geass A World Divided:

A request from Historyman14 for a Code Geass scenario of his devising. In this turn of events much of the British royal family is killed by a French assassin immediately after the Humiliation of Edinburgh. This paralyses the royalist holdout that flees to the American colonies as people try to find a legitimate successor to the throne in exile.

Eventually a man, Matthew Hamilton, steps forward with a somewhat distant but viable relative of Queen Elizabeth III. He installs the young, nervous man and declares himself Lord Protector, a new office. With the homeland lost, the British colonies declare themselves the Holy Kingdom of New Albion, a new nation to succeed the British Empire. There are numerous reforms that see the office of the Lord Protector gaining a lot of power from the throne though the aristocracy are placated with the assurance of their traditional rights and powers.

Despite having a much worse start than canon Britannia, New Albion goes on to successfully sweep across much of North America, only stalling after they have pushed the Mexicans out of Texas, the West Coast and much of New Mexico. They still develop into a superpower of their own and explode onto the world stage, reinvigorating the British interests overseas once again.

By 2017 Ascensio Thronem Britannicae, the world is facing a new upheaval. Sakuradite is the desired resource of the future and the major world powers are doing whatever they can to secure reserves and deposits.

The Holy Kingdom of New Albion is now a major superpower that can challenge the other major powers on the world stage. Though they have transitioned to a constitutional monarchy with the royal family largely relegated to the position of figurehead, the rest of society is still highly traditionalist. The Albionese are hierarchical, elitist and continue to support the class systems of the ancien regime, albeit with some modifications to make it more adaptable. Social Darwinism is the defining ideology of New Albion and allows for a decent degree of social mobility as people from lower classes can rise to power through more modern industry and acquire noble titles to join the members of the traditional elite.

The Hamiltonian dynasty of Lord Protectors have held most of the political power in the kingdom since its creation. Though the Tudor family still sit the throne they haven’t managed to produce someone talented enough to throw off the shackles the Hamiltons placed on them long ago. One family, the Britannian family of (previously minor) aristocrats, have proven to be a recurring nuisance for the Hamilton’s hegemonic dominance of politics. A secret war of influence and power-plays have been ongoing for over a century now and things are really flaring up.

New Albion supports a bizarre policy of segregation and slow integration. Indigenous people in their territories are kept separate from society and treated as second or third class citizens but are slowly converted to Albionese culture. This takes generations but has seen some success, especially in the older territories. Countless Native American tribes are culturally extinct now despite their ethnic descendants living abundantly in New Albion. The black population are in a difficult situation with the entire population technically being enfranchised, most of them remaining in the lower social classes and a few of them attaining much higher status. Some areas, like the more distinct Polynesian cultures the kingdom rule over, and the subcultures of the Caribbean islands, have weathered this system better due to preservation by interested aristocrats.

New Albion is also highly militant with a culture that glorifies military service and has tried to combine modern warfare with the old romantic notions of chivalry and knighthood. The advent of knightmare frames has led to an aristocratic renaissance in the armed forces with cadres of knights and even knightly orders making a notable comeback. Albionese knightmares, as the first to be developed, are the most sophisticated. They are also making the most advances with the 6th Generation already serving as a test-bed for experimental technology and the 7th Generation is on the verge of being successfully field-tested.

New Albion’s closest rival is the European Universe, the descendant of the Napoleonic Empire and the major rival to New Albion around the world. The EU has changed a lot but its silent war with New Albion has forced them to turn into an expansionist power as well.

The centre of the EU is the Napoleonic Empire of France. Though their system of puppets and dependencies has transformed into the semi-federal democratic entity it is today, the French have always remained the foremost state within the European system. The Bonaparte family are still, technically, the heads of state though their power and authority have devolved to the Hemicycle and their position both within the EU and France itself are largely ceremonial. France is democratic but also very militant and hierarchical, no not as much as New Albion. A recent period of political apathy and complacence which is seeing populism grow in regularity but thankfully none of the emerging demagogues have yet to threaten the power of the major political parties.

Influence and political positions within the EU is decided by their membership in the tiered structure of the Hemicycle. Nations that are associates often have fewer abilities to exercise political power of the EU as a whole than the fully integrated members. Dependencies have no actual ability to influence decisions made by the Hemicycle and usually just have a token representation that is associated with some bigger power within the EU. Most of the proper member states are often closely tied to France by economic and political interconnectivity that often leaves these member states following France’s example.

Stuck between these two superstates and their power plays in the Americas is the unfortunate Empire of Brazil. After fleeing their homeland, the Portuguese Braganzas set themselves up as the permanent monarchs of the former colony. They remained rather static for a while afterwards until the Albionese began trying to pick apart the Spanish Empire in the Americas. As the Albionese moved into the destabilising colonies and the EU tried to keep a hold over them, Brazil ended up in the middle. To this day, it remains a state wracked by proxy power-plays as both sides jostle to influence the enormous and somewhat corpulent nation. Though there have been efforts to modernise the nation, the new infrastructure usually ends up being owned by the foreign investors who build and improve it.

The third great power is the Empire of Russia. After narrowly surviving war with the Bonapartist empire, they expanded further east earlier than OTL and even managed to secure more of the Pacific Northwest before they bumped into Albionese Oregon.

Russia, offset European democracy by turning to reactionary politics. Whilst it initially followed a more modernised derivative of absolutism, it slowly turned towards increasingly theocratic politics. Soon the two combined to form a sort of clerical-absolutism. This ideology was then entrenched once tensions with New Albion developed and the Russians tried to find some way to differentiate themselves from Albionese hierarchical constitutional monarchism. By this point the government (which is still technically absolutist) is heavily intertwined with the Orthodox Church. Technically the empire is caesaropapist but the church has a lot of actual influence over the decisions of the tsar and his court., Life is highly hierarchical and stratified and propaganda is almost ubiquitous. Even church sermons are now used as mouthpieces for the political agenda of the empire as a whole.

Though there are independent, minor powers, much of the world is divided between the big three and things are about to change. South Britannia, centred in South Africa which Britain had taken in the middle of the war with the French, has been opening talks with New Albion though what may come of them is not yet sure. Australia has been doing much the same though the belligerence between the two means there is an even lower likelihood of a deal being made. Jiang China, hanging on despite being surrounded by rather hostile enemies, has been building up an arsenal again and has even hired scientific teams from India to improve their experimental knightmare frames.

The advent of knightmare frames in the Great Pacific War changed everything as the autonomous mechanoid frames devastated most conventional weapons and when supported by other forces, performed blitzkreig attacks that could not be stopped. With new knightmare frames available to the world, the big three are gearing for conquest and war. A new great game is about to begin.

Knightmare frames have since revolutionized military technology and have even seen some use in civilian roles. The rest of the world has developed their own models as well after seeing their performance in the Great Pacific War. The knightmares of Europe and Russia re original models using something approaching the basic frame of the Albionese knightmares as a foundation. European knightmares are normally bulky, heavily armoured machines that have sacrificed the versatility of the Albionese models in favour of specialising in long ranged warfare. They are producing more advanced frames similar to the Albionese 6th and 7th generation knightmares. Russian models continue to be comparatively low-slung, heavily armoured machines, similar to upright tanks and lacking in versatility in favour of armour and being producible. Most models used by other nations are either poor knock-offs of the big three or are inferior machines often resembling tanks more than humanoid frames.

I like this very much. Thanks for putting this up.

What is life like in Mexico, South Britannia, Jiang China, Zaho China, and Australia?

Who is the current  Lord  Protector running the show?
