Red Alert Insanity:
This is sort of based on the Red Alert 3 Paradox mod. A few liberties have been taken with the setting. Set after the events of the terrible Third World War the world looked just about ready to recover. The Allies had won and despite the losses incurred in the war itself and the increasing costs of occupying the former USSR and Empire of the Rising Sun they were confident in looking forward to a future of peace and prosperity.

Rebellions in the USSR and the territories of the former Japanese Empire were sporadic at first and often poorly organised. The rise of Soviet and Japanese warlords in the later years was more worrying and embarrassing for Allied commander many of whom refused to co-operate with many local generals and leaders that co-operated with the occupation. Instead the people of occupied nations such as the USSR, the Japanese Home Islands and several other nations that had sided with the losing powers began to resent the Allies arrogant and condescending attitude towards them.

Things began to go downhill when American partisans, disgruntled with the Allied assassination (in their words) of President Howard T. Ackerman, rose up against the Anglo-European led Allied forces that had moved in as peacekeepers. Shortly afterwards the organised network of Soviet resistance movements made mobilised and attacked Allied instalments across the USSR. Nations in Southern and Eastern Europe also began to break away from the EU as the Grand Alliance continued to centralise and become authoritarian in the wake of so many armed uprisings. Overstretched, the Allies pulled out of the USSR proper and much of the old East Asian Co-Prosperity Sphere in order to put down the revolutionaries and terrorists in their own territory. Shortly after that the puppet Soviet government was overthrown and a new Communist military government was installed by the Soviet resistance. In response the Alliance continued to centralise and rearm itself. The war had not ended.

It is now the year 2006, about 20 years since the end of World War Three also known as the War of the Three Powers.

The Grand Alliance is a very different entity to what it was since the war ended. In the twenty years since WWIII the rigours of the aftermath they have centralised and militarised once again. After the public were made aware of the actions of President Ackerman and his plans to destroy the tentative Allied/Soviet Alliance discredited the USA and with the rest of Europe destroyed by the Soviets during the war, the United Kingdom, with the support of their Commonwealth and the massive and powerful FutureTech Corporation, went on to take charge of the Alliance. The Grand Alliance has continued to homogenize both politically and culturally which is one of the biggest reasons behind the rise of the rebellions in America and Europe. They are currently the most technologically advanced superstate thanks to the efforts of FutureTech and various other mega-corporations that remain within the Alliance. However despite the move towards centralisation, homogenisation and militarisation (and despite the claims of their detractors) the Alliance is still a democracy. Even with their move towards a federal superstate they still have elections and allow participation of all political parties. Conscription is still around but is unlikely to actually be implemented for anything short of a truly devastating invasion. Overall the mission of the Alliance is to spread peace, prosperity and equality to the entire world but this has often come at the expense of national determinism and some cultural identity amongst several member states.

The Allies still maintain occupation forces in several areas including the Japanese Home Islands and many former Soviet and Japanese puppet states. Some of these occupation zones remain cooperative especially now that the reconstruction periods are coming to a close. However others continue to resist and receive support from the USSR and the Co-Prosperity Sphere. The Allied military has transformed itself thanks to new FutureTech developments with recovered Soviet and Japanese technology from WWIII. The development of aerial armadas and their own advanced mecha has improved Allied speed and versatility and made it much easier for them to deploy rapid and strong response forces.

The United States is an unofficial nation that has seceded from the Alliance since the rebellion began over a decade ago. The rise of guerilla warfare groups tested the strength of the Allied occupation and much of the country has been lost with revolutionary groups holding power and the Allied control now confined to the North and around their more fortified areas. This new USA is far more decentralised than before and claims to uphold the traditional ideals of America and has even regressed in some ways compared tot he US before WWIII. Thanks to the guerilla warfare and the loss of most large corporations who are pro-Alliance the USA is still rather impoverished and struggles to recover due to the lack of actual political organisation. The military is a collection fo different armed groups that wield a vast collection of mostly antiquated weaponry that has been salvaged from whatever the Revolutionaries can find. There have also been several unfortunate fiascos involving US Revolutionary warlords who have made incursions into Mexico, diverting valuable resources and worsening the reputation of the Revolution.

After the schism in the European Union the nations that rebelled rebuilt the old European Community as a more liberal and decentralised entity than the European Union of the Alliance. The EC is a very loose organization that has developed a unity centred around their opposition to the Alliance more than anything. Aside from that they are a truly divisive group with an eclectic mixture of various forms of government ranging from democratic republics and socialist states to fascist dictatorships and military juntas. There are only a few united institutions within the EC and the largest by far is the military. The EC has managed to retain a lot of older Allied equipment and adapted it with the remains of Soviet technology left behind from their occupation and even a few innovations of their own.

The USSR has spent most of their time recovering from the Third World War and the havoc of the Occupation. They have since rebuilt with ruthless efficiency and an unusually low body count. Thanks to the high levels of technology the USSR is a far more prosperous and efficient nation than OTL. However they are still the most backward of any of the world powers which has always led them to rely on numbers when fighting in wars. Their industrial might has completely recovered now and despite the loss of so many of their puppet states and socialist allies they have consolidated what they do possess and are waiting for the right time to strike. The current Premier, an experienced military commander from WWIII is busying his nation with the expansion and militarisation of their infrastructure and has begun to fund numerous new scientific projects that will give the USSR new weaponry with which they can challenge the rest of the world and finally spread the glorious World Revolution to the rest of the globe.

Whilst the Home Islands are still under occupation a number of Japanese Imperial warlords have emerged in the territory of the former Greater East Asian Co-Prosperity Sphere. Most of these warlords have consolidated around the most senior of the remaining shoguns and have since cooperated in their goal of liberating their homeland and rebuilding the Empire. Many dangerous and atrocious weapons that were developed but abandoned in WWIII have since been reactivated in their effort of combating the sheer amount of resources and manpower that the Allies and Soviets are able to field. The citizens within the GEACPS work to maintain the armed forces of the warlords as they have now become little more than an army (or a collection of armies) with a country. One of the goals of the GEACPS is to regain the allegiance of the now illusive and incredibly volatile Yuriko Omega as her powers would be give them the advantage they need in fighting their many enemies. Resistance is a major problem in portions of the GEACPS as the former imperial subjects continue to try to throw off the shackles of Japanese control and rid themselves of their atrocious tyranny.

Technology is far more advanced than OTL with numerous fantastical fields having been exploited. Chronosphere technology allows Allied forces to warp time and space itself, teleporting protected individuals and groups of people over vast distances instantaneously, cryogenic technology is very real and can even be weaponised as the Allies demonstrated in WWIII,advanced electromagnetics can carry large metallic objects over immense distances and even into space and then there is VX transformation technology that can design vehicles capable of reconfiguring into various alternative forms. Weapons technology has benefited the most by far and though some of the new technology has been adapted or developed for civilian use most of it still designed for armed conflict. The Alliance is by far the most advanced of the world powers and still has a phenomenal lead thanks to the sheer amount of resources and talent at their disposal. Psionics are a science that is still not understood very well. The destruction of Shiro Sanitarium and all the research of the Omega Project shortly after WWIII means that the world powers have had to start from scratch in order to understand this strange and often esoteric field of science. FutureTech has devoted the most resources by far and whilst most other nations merely wish to learn how to combat the effects of mental domination various Allied groups have been looking into more practical application.

Across the world various security forces have finally begun to notice a strange cult with cells in every nation. No matter what portion of the world they recruit from they all seem to remain a coherent and united entity as well and it has been discovered that the only reason they have now been noticed is because the amount of activity from them has become enormous. These figures are shadowy and reclusive but fight with zealous fanaticism when discovered or threatened. Little is actually known about them but they have been revealed to refer to themselves as the Children of Nod.

Meanwhile the Allied High Command has begun to investigate the actions of FutureTech. Despite being one of their largest backer and the main source of their advanced technology the Allies are becoming suspicious of the increasingly arrogant TNC and are beginning to worry about FutureTech's recent actions. Former Soviet and Japanese scientists have been requisitioned from POW camps and a number of chronological anomalies have been detected here and there. Spies have uncovered the results of disturbing experiments and one question hangs over MI6's heads. What is the Sigma Harmonizer?
